LA Opera's emergence as a Wagner powerhouse continues as music director James Conlon leads a cast headed by Ben Heppner ("the real thing...a heroic and thrilling performance," New York Times) making his Company debut in the title role. Soile Isokoski brings her "deeply expressive, beautifully vocalized, richly colored" (New York Times) soprano to the role of the conflicted Elsa. Dolora Zajick, "the reigning dramatic mezzo of the age...powerfully seductive, full of rich color" (Opera News) makes her eagerly anticipated role debut as the poisonous Ortrud.
