WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

A zombie apocalypse. The demise of an aging B-movie actress. A dictator in search of love in Tinseltown... With the exception of the first, these premises hardly seem like ideal subjects for Halloween. But on closer examination, all three really do share one thing in common. Whether it's literal brain-eating zombies taking over the planet, or the horrific events that follow a madwoman's determination to make a return to former glory, or a sadistic dictator who uses his totalitarian power to get what he wants - they're all depictions of varying degrees of what the horror genre refers to as "monsters." So what better way to explore these themes on stage than with a nostalgic trip to the Drive In where the B-movies thrive? While those films of the 50s, 60s, and 70s aren't exactly considered high art, they do tap into the dark recesses of society, offering up commentary on social issues - with tongue always planted firmly in cheek - intentionally or not. This is the springboard for ATC's take on the B-Movie. You can call it a rip-off, we call it an homage. After all, it has been said that imitation is the highest form of flattery and there is no doubt that the three writers hold these genre films near and dear to their hearts.
