WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Opera: is it just a diverting plaything of the caviar-consuming elite, or art that can touch the "human core" and transcend its high-cost traditions? Can this most demanding form of human artistic expression be extracted from the conventions of the 2000-seat proscenium theatre equipped with its million dollar spectacle and still move us to laughter and tears? To find out, the intrepid Chance Theater Repertory Company will do the unthinkable -metaphorically put ten pounds of opera in a five pound bag! FIG: R.O. (retro opero) is The Chance Theater Repertory Company's created adaptation of The Marriage of Figaro, Beaumarchais' and Mozart's most beloved barber's nuptials, with libretto translation by Sherwood Dudley and Miriam Ellis, and as conceptualized by director and adaptor Robert G. Leigh, adaptor Heather Howe, and musical director/musical adaptor Dean Anderson. The Opening Gala is set for Friday, May 13, and the $30 Opening Gala tickets include champagne and refreshments after the performance. A Dinner and Show package is also available for $40.
