An LATW-commissioned world premiere stage adaptation by the BBC's Kate McAll of George Eliot's 1876 novel exploring the place of Judaism in British Victorian society. Daniel Deronda is an intelligent, handsome young man who has been raised by his guardian, Sir Hugo Mallinger, but knows nothing of his true origins. Deronda's search to find his identity leads him into the world of 19th-century Zionism and the Jewish mystical tradition known as Kabbalah, a discovery that will alter the course of his life. Each of the five performances at UCLA's state-of-the-art James Bridges Theater will be recorded live in front of an audience for future radio broadcast, distribution on CD, digital download, and online streaming. L.A. Theatre Works' syndicated radio theater series broadcasts weekly on public radio stations across the U.S. (locally, in Southern California, on KPFK 90.7 FM).
