Collected Stories is by Donald Margulies and celebrates Ruth Steiner, a short story writer. Lisa Morrison is a young, brash graduate student who arrives for a tutorial in writing. As Lisa's star rises, her teacher's slowly dims and when the young writer bases her new novel on a personal incident Ruth had described to her in confidence, the older woman's sense of accomplishment and identity are profoundly shaken. Set in the literary scene in New York in the 50's, Margulies has created two unforgettable, but flawed women whose relationship threatens to erupt when protege becomes competitor.
