WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Actor-director Adrian Pasdar and Geffen Playhouse Artistic Director Randall Arney co-direct the world premiere of Atlanta. Pasdar, along with singer-songwriter Marcus Hummon, developed the progressive new musical, which mixes select prose by William Shakespeare with original bluegrass music and country tunes.

Atlanta, the new musical drama now at the Geffen Theater, contains many lovely melodies by Grammy Award-winning songwriter Marcus Hummon and some interesting characters, but it suffers from a lackluster male lead, Ken Barnett, and a story (co-written by actor Adrian Pasdar) that dissolves because the focus revolves around his character. In sharper hands, however, this could have been a masterwork about the African-American experience during the Civil War.
Yankee soldier Paul (Ken Barnett) kills a Confederate soldier and steals his identity. The scene moves so fast, however, that it's never made crystal clear if he does this for his own safety or for other, internal reasons. He soon stumble[...]
