Phylicia Rashad Cast in New CBS Drama For Justice

Tony Award winner Phylicia Rashad has been cast as a series regular in the new CBS drama For Justice.
Her character is introduced in the pilot episode as a gay black woman named Georgina Howe. As a savvy Washington player who has faced discrimination for her race and sexual orientation, her character fights to protect the independence and integrity of her high-profile Civil Rights Division.
The series is based on James Patterson’s novel The Thomas Berryman Number. It follows a female FBI agent working in the Criminal Section of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division who finds herself caught between her radical real family and her professional family.
The pilot episode is written by Law & Order veteran Rene Balcer and directed by Selma‘s Ava DuVernay. Balcer also executive-produces the series alongside DuVernay, Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, James Patterson, Bill Robinson, and Leopoldo Gout, with Berry Welsh co-executive producing.
Rashad is best known for her longtime role as Claire Huxtable on The Cosby Show. She earned a Tony Award in 2004 for her performance in A Raisin in the Sun and has also appeared on Broadway in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Cymbeline, Gem of the Ocean (Tony nomination), Jelly's Last Jam, Into the Woods, Dreamgirls, and The Wiz.
