La Mirada Theatre presents the musical Empire, which begins performances this evening.

The show takes place during the Great Depression after the roaring '20s has collapsed into the dark days of the '30s in New York City. It follows the industrialists, laborers, and their families, who moved forward with the unprecedented project of building the Empire State Building. As they gamble their dreams on something dangerous and unsure, the building and those involved in its creation become emblematic of the American spirit in times of darkness.

The musical features music, lyrics, and book by Caroline Sherman and Robert Hull. Marcia Milgrom Dodge directs and choreographs. The cast is composed of Michael Baxter, Chassey Bennett, Tommy Bracco, Ricky Bulda, Juan Caballer, Caitlyn Calfas, Kevin Earley, Fatima El-Bashir, Tory Freeth, Stephanie Gibson, Joe Hart, Charlotte Maltby, Tony Sheldon, Michael McCormick, Katharine McDonough, Gabriel Navarro, Rachel Osting, Caleb Shaw, Cooper Stanton, Michael Starr, Christine Tucker, Rodrigo Varandas, Josh Walden, and Justin Michael Wilcox.

The creative team includes Sariva Goetz (music director), David Gallo (set design), Leon Wiebers (costume design), Jared A. Sayeg (lighting design), Phil Allen (sound design), and Rick Geyer (hair/wig/makeup design).

Performances will run through February 14.
