Barcelona begins performances tonight at Geffen Playhouse in the Gil Cates Theater.

In the late hours of the night and early hours of morning, Irene stumbles around Barcelona, Gaudi’s magical city. In her drunken state, she meets Manuel, a dashing Spaniard, and the two plunge into a reckless one-night stand. Filled with both comedy and danger, the night shifts between Irene’s romantic fantasies and an intricate game of cat and mouse. During this brief encounter of two people and cultures, Irene and Manuel find themselves dangerously close to mutual destruction and on the edge of unexpected salvation.

Written by Bess Wohl and directed by Trip Cullman, the show features Betty Gilpin and Carlos Leal.

The creative team includes Mark Wendland (set design), Leah Katznelson (costume design), Japhy Weideman (lighting design), Vincent Olivieri (sound design), Peter Katona (fight director), and Maggie Swing (production stage manager).

Performances will run through March 13.
