Broadway's Mark Rylance Wins Big at 2016 Academy Awards

The ”Nice Fish” star and three-time Tony winner adds another acting accolade to his mantel.

Three-time Tony Award winner Mark Rylance, currently appearing at St. Ann's Warehouse in his play Nice Fish, has been honored with another major accolade for his acting work: the 2016 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Rylance received the statue for his performance in Steven Spielberg's film Bridge of Spies, beating out category favorite Sylvester Stallone (Creed), as well as Mark Ruffalo (Spotlight), Tom Hardy (The Revenant), and Christian Bale (The Big Short).

The evening's big acting winners also included Leonardo DiCaprio, receiving the award on his sixth try for his work in The Revenant, Brie Larson for Room, and Alicia Vikander for her performance in The Danish Girl. Spotlight, featuring Something Rotten! leading man Brian d'Arcy James, received the coveted Best Picture honor.
