Janis Kelly, Alek Shrader, et al. Set for LA Opera’s Albert Herring

Full cast and creative team have been announced for LA Opera’s production of Benjamin Britten’s comic opera Albert Herring, to run February 25-March 17 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The production will be directed by Paul Curran and conducted by James Conlon.


The opera takes place in a bucolic English country village where the formidable Lady Billows and her committee must choose a May Queen from the lovely local maidens. But the only virgin to be found is Albert Herring, a meek mama’s boy who reluctantly becomes Loxford’s first May King.


The cast will feature Alek Shrader (Albert Herring), Janis Kelly (Lady Billows), Liam Bonner (Sid), Daniela Mack (Nancy), Ronnita Nicole Miller (Florence Pike), Jane Bunnell (Mrs. Herring),Stacey Tappan (Miss Wordsworth), Jonathan Michie (Mr. Gedge), Robert McPherson (Mayor Upfold), and Richard Bernstein (Superintendent Budd). In addition, Christine Brewer will play Lady Billows on March 14 and 17.


The creative team includes scenic and costume designer Kevin Knight, lighting designer Rick Fisher, an associate conductor Grant Gershon
