Elton John, Robert Lopez, Alan Menken, et al. on Longlist for Best Original Song Oscar

The list of the 39 songs that will be considered eligible for the 84th annual Academy Awards has been released. The nominees for Best Original Song Oscar will be announced on January 24.

Among the writers whose work is being considered for the award are Alan Menken and David Zippel for “Star Spangled Man” heard in the film Captain America: The First Avenger; Elton John, for two songs from Gnomeo and Juliet, “Hello Hello” and “Love Builds a Garden,” and Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez for The Backson Song from Winnie the Pooh.
