Annette Bening, Glenn Close, Nicole Kidman, Jane Lynch, Susan Sarandon, Patrick Stewart, et al. Receive SAG Award Nominations

The nominations for the 17th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards have been announced. The prizes will be presented in a ceremony to be held on January 30 at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles and simulcast on TNT and TBS at 8pm ET/5pm PT.

The awards are presented to both performers in film and television. In the movie categories, The Fighter received four nominations, including individual ones for Amy Adams and Melissa Leo, and one for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Helena Bonham Carter, Colin Firth, and Geoffrey Rush are nominated for the individual work in The King’s Speech, as well as in the Outstanding Cast category, alongside co-stars Anthony Andrews, Jennifer Ehle, Michael Gambon, and Derek Jacobi.

The other nominated casts are Black Swan, which stars individual nominee Natalia Portman; The Kids Are All Right, which features individual nominees Annette Bening and Mark Ruffalo; and The Social Network, which features individual nominee Jesse Eisenberg.

In addition Nicole Kidman was nominated for her turn in the film version of David Lindsay-Abaire’s Rabbit Hole.

In television categories, ABC’s Modern Family has garnered four nominations including ones for co-stars Ty Burrell and Sofia Vergara. The show is also up for an Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series award.

Another nominee in this latter category is FOX’s Glee, which has also received individual nominations for Chris Colfer and Jane Lynch. The other casts that have been nominated in the Comedy series category are NBC’s 30 Rock, for which star Alec Baldwin is also individually nominated, TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland, and The Office.

Other individual nominees for their work in television series include stage veterans Glenn Close (Damages) Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Michael C. Hall (Dexter), Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife), Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men), and Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer).

Among the individually nominated performers for their work in movies and miniseries are: John Goodman, Al Pacino, and Susan Sarandon for You Don’t Know Jack; Claire Danes, Catherine O’Hara and Julia Ormond for Temple Gardens; and Patrick Stewart for his performance in PBS’ Macbeth.
