Michael York will be among the participants in a tribute to Czech composer Leos Janacek to be presented by Long Beach Opera on January 11 at Art Theater of Long Beach, from 3pm to 6pm.

York will portray Janacek in Cecilia Fannon’s The glow of your kisses…, a theatrical presentation in collaboration with Panndora Productions that draws from the composer’s life and letters and tells the hidden tales of passion and obsession among Janacek, his long-time mistress Kamila Stosslova, and his wife Zdenka. The cast will also include Sonja Berggren, Edita Brychta, and Hellena Taylor.

The tribute, under the umbrella title of The Lion in Love, will also include an award winning Czech documentary about Janacek’s life, a chamber string quartet by the composer played by the Lyris String Quartet, and Czech culinary treats. Long Beach Opera is presenting the tribute in conjunction with its upcoming production of Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen, to be presented January 17 & 25.

York appeared on Broadway in Bent, The Crucible, and Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me. His film credits include Cabaret, Something for Everyone, and Murder on the Orient Express.
