The North American tour of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Next to Normal opened at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles, on Sunday, November 28.

The musical, written by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey and directed by Michael Greif, addresses issues of mental illness and a suburban family’s efforts to cope with loss.

Alice Ripley reprises her Tony Award-winning role of Diana, with the cast also featuring Asa Somers (Dan), Curt Hansen (Gabe), Emma Hunton (Natalie), Jeremy Kushnier (Dr. Madden/Dr. Fine), and Preston K. Sadleir (Henry).

Among the opening night guests were Billie Joe Armstrong, Adam Brody, Kate Burton, Darren Criss, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Sarah Hyland, Chad Lowe, Kim Painter, Alec Mapa, Jena Malone, Adam Pascal, Jai Rodriguez, Amanda Seyfried, Sarah Silverman, Jenny Lee Stern, Tracie Thoms, and Jenna Ushkowitz.
