Shakespeare Festival/LA will present visionary director Baz Luhrmann with one of its Crystal Quill Awards, at a ceremony to be held at 20th Century Fox Studios on November 20 at 6pm.

The Crystal Quill Awards are designed to acknowledge contributions to arts education. Luhrmann will be honored for his 1996 adaptation of Romeo & Juliet that is now used as curriculum in thousands of classrooms across the country. Additional honorees include producer Mark Gordon and Steve Seidel, director of Harvard University’s Project Zero. The awards will be presented by Rita Wilson. Also in attendance will be the event’s co-chairs Michael Lynton, Amy Pascal, and Barry Hirsch.

Luhrmann received Tony and Drama Desk nominations for his direction of the 2003 Broadway production of La Bohème. His numerous film credits include Romeo & Juliet, Moulin Rouge, and the forthcoming Australia starring Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, which will be released by 20th Century Fox on November 26.
