2012 Tony-nominated playwright Jon Robin Baitz is penning the adaptation of the Australian series The Slap for NBC, according to Deadline.com.

The premise of the show, adapted from the best-selling novel by Christos Tsiolkas, is that a man slaps a child — not related to him — at a barbeque. Each of the eight episodes of the award-winning Australian series showed different viewpoints on the incident.

Baitz’s Other Desert Cities received Tony and Drama Desk nominations, and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. The playwright was also a Pulitzer finalist for A Fair Country, and received additional Drama Desk nominations for Three Hotels and The Film Society. He is also well known for creating the television series, Brothers & Sisters.
