René Rivera to Star in The King of the Desert

René Rivera will star in Stacey Martino’s The King of the Desert, a co-production from CoActive Content and American Latino Theatre Company to be presented in the Forum Theatre at the El Portal Theatre, October 28-December 4. Sal Romeo will direct.

The play depicts a Mexican American boy’s journey of self-discovery through adulthood and the realization of his dreams. A talk back Q & A session with members of the play’s cast and crew will be held at the conclusion of each Sunday matinee performance.

The production will feature lighting design by Jeremy Pivnick, video design by Mat Hale, costume design by Heather Mendoza, set design by Danuta Tomzynski, and sound design by Jade Puga and Richard Montes.

Rivera’s Broadway credits include Salome, starring and directed by Al Pacino. Off-Broadway credits include Richard II, In The Jungle of Cities, and Hamlet. He also has numerous credits with regional theaters, as well as television and film.

A portion of the proceeds from performances throughout the run of the show will benefit the National Latino Children’s Institute, The Oscar De La Hoya Foundation and The Youth Policy Institute.
