Anne Hathaway to Join Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe in Les Miserables Movie Musical

Anne Hathaway will play Fantine opposite Hugh Jackman’s Jean Valjean and Russell Crowe’s Javert in the musical film adaptation of Les Miserables, according to a report on Deadline.com. Tom Hooper will direct the film, which will be released December 7, 2012.

The screenplay will be written by playwright William Nicholson, based upon the Victor Hugo book and the stage musical adaptation.

Cameron Mackintosh is producing the film, which will be utilizing the musical’s original score from Claude-Michel Schoenberg and Alain Boublil.

Hathaway’s stage credits include Twelfth Night, Carnival, Jane Eyre, and Gigi. She received an Academy Award nomination for Rachel Getting Married, and has also appeared in the films Bride Wars, The Devil Wears Prada, Get Smart, Brokeback Mountain, and The Princess Diaries. In addition, and as previously announced, she is also playing Catwoman in the forthcoming The Dark Knight Rises.
