Lineup Announced for 2nd Annual Laguna Beach New Play Festival

The Orange County Playwrights’ Alliance has announced the lineup for the 2nd Annual Laguna Beach New Play Festival, according to the Orange County Register. Six plays will be presented in staged readings on two successive Saturdays, November 7 and November 14, at the Forum Theatre.

The first weekend will include Kenneth La Salle’s Murielle’s Big Date, a look at contemporary relationships which will be directed by the playwright; Erica Bennett’s Freed, directed by Tam Warner, and examining how a woman’s near-death experience affects her; and Donna Bader’s A High Concept Killing, directed by Tira Palmquist, which focuses on the unlikely relationship between a struggling screenwriter and an ex-con.

On November 14, Mark Piatelli’s play about a contemporary gay relationship, Inside My Father’s Apple Tree, will be followed by Eric Eberwein’s Hard, directed by Tamiko Washington, focusing on a teacher trying to make a movie with two of his former students, and Jordan R. Young’s The Troubles on 42nd Street, set in the mid-1950s and centering on a dying Irish playwright whose once famous tragicomedy is being turned into a Broadway musical.
