Ensemble Studio Theatre-LA to Premiere Julie Hebert’s Tree

Julie Hébert’s play, Tree will have its world premiere from Ensemble Studio Theatre-LA at the Ford Amphitheater, November 7-December 13, with Jessica Kubzansky at the helm.

The play involves a white Southern woman who discovers old love letters that lead her to an African American half-brother. The cast will feature Chuma Gault as African American chef Leo Price, Sloan Robinson as Price’s ailing mother, Tessa Thompson as Price’s teenage daughter, and Jacqueline Wright as white Gender Studies professor Didi Marcantel.

The creative team will include Brian Sidney Bembridge (scenic/lighting design), Bruno Louchouarn (original music/sound design), and Leah Piehl (costume design). Hébert’s other works include Touch the Water, Abe Lincoln’s Dog, The Knee Desires the Dirt, Almost Asleep, True Beauties, St. Joan and the Dancing Sickness, In the Privacy of Strangers, and Ruby’s Bucket of Blood.
