Giamatti, Gleason, Rabe, Strathairn Set for LATW’s The Rivalry

L.A. Theatre Works will launch its season The Play’s The Thing series of staged readings, which are recorded for later radio broadcast, with David Strathairn, Paul Giamatti, Lily Rabe, and James Gleason in Norman Corwin’s political drama The Rivalry, to run October 15-19, at the Skirball Cultural Center. The play focuses on the famed Abraham Lincoln-Stephen Douglas debates.

The LATW season also includes Tom Stoppard’s The Real Thing (November 12-16); the U.S. premiere of two pieces Beloved Clara and Odyssey of Love (December 3-7), featuring pianist Lucy Parnham and actors Rosalind Ayres and Martin Jarvis; Lonne Elder III’s Ceremonies in Dark Old Men (January 14-18); Eric Stoltz, Waleed F. Zuaiter and Sevaan Greene in George Packer’s Betrayed (February 18-22); Mark Ruffalo, Josh Hamilton, and Missy Yager in Kenneth Lonergan’s This Is Our Youth (March 18-22); Alfred Molina and Brian Cox in Yazmin Reza’s Art (April 15-19); a double bill of War of the Worlds and The Lost World (May 13-17); Neil Patrick Harris, Hamish Linklater, and Emily Bergl in Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest (June 17-21); and RIchard Dreyfuss, Hector Elizondo, and Amy Pietz in Friedrich Durrenmatt’s The Physicists (July 8-12).
