La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts has announced a co-production between La Mirada, Jack W. Batman, Bruce Robert Harris, and The Transfer Group: an all-new, reimagined, environmental, and completely immersive theater production of the musical adaptation of Stephen King's thriller novel Carrie will open at the California venue in March 2015. Performances will begin March 12 in advance of an official March 18 opening.

The revamped production will reunite the original creative team, including book writer Lawrence D. Cohen (screenwriter of the classic film), Academy Award-winning composer Michael Gore (Fame, Terms of Endearment), and Academy Award-winning lyricist Dean Pitchford (Fame, Footloose). Brady Schwind directs the production, with choreography by Imara Quinonez.

"The story of Carrie has endured in the popular consciousness for decades, but no one has ever experienced it from this point of view," producers Bruce Robert Harris and Jack W. Batman said in a statement. "The idea of placing the audience in the center of this world was just too tantalizing to resist. It’s going to be thrilling."

Adapted from the 1974 horror novel by Stephen King, Carrie tells the story of 17-year-old Carrie White, who is terrorized by her high school classmates and her fanatically religious mother. After becoming the victim of a prom night prank, Carrie uses her newly discovered telekinetic powers to wreak havoc on those who have done her wrong. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1988, playing only five post-opening performances, followed by a 2012 off-Broadway revival at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. The show has gone on to receive numerous regional productions.
