The Actors’ Gang will produce the premiere of Tim Robbins’ new play Break The Whip, which will begin performances on September 2 at The Ivy Substation, Culver City. The show will officially open on September 18. Robbins, who co-founded the company, will direct his script, which will be performed in three languages with supertitles. Casting and creative team will be announced at a later date.

Inspired by the work of respected historians (including Tim Hashaw, Benjamin Woolley, and the late Howard Zinn), the play focuses on the Jamestown Colony, where three distinct cultures — the Powhatan Indians, the English settlers, and West African slaves — co-mingle and struggle to simply persist.

Robbins’ previous plays include Embedded. He won an Oscar for his performance in Mystic River and his many other screen credits are Bob Roberts, Bull Durham, The Player, Cadillac Man, Prêt-à-Porter, and Jacob’s Ladder.
