The Los Angeles Theatre Center (LATC) has announced its slate of productions and special events for the fall season.

Robert Beltran — known for his TV roles as Commander Chakotay on Star Trek: Voyager and Jerry Flute on the current season of Big Love — will star in the season opener, the world premiere of Evelina Fernandez’ Solitude (September 9 – October 4), which centers on the revelations that come as a man mourns his mother’s death. Produced by Latino Theater Company, the production will be directed by Jose Luis Valenzuela. The cast will also include Evelina Fernandez, Fidel Gomez, Sal Lopez, Geoffrey Rivas, and Lucy Rodriguez. The production will feature choreography by Urbanie Lucero, and original music by Semyon Kobialka, who also performs as Chelo.

LATC will also co-produce, with Playwrights’ Arena, a second world premiere, Boni B. Alvarez’ Ruby, Tragically Rotund (September 11 – October 4), about a young Filipina woman whose size causes her mother to favor a younger child. The Robey Theatre Company production will present a revival of Joseph A. Walker’s Tony Award-winning play The River Niger (November 13 – December 20). Directed by Dwain A. Perry, this play focuses on three generations of an African American family in post-Civil Rights era America.

Additional programming at LATC this fall will include LOL Latina on the Loose! (September 25 – October 11), a one-woman show from Mina Olivera, a concert from Semyon Kobialka, a presentation of a work-in-progress from Dan Guerrero, and a pair of dance-theater pieces. The fall season at the center will be rounded out with Luis Avalos’ myth-based theater piece Pachamanca Mother Earth (November 12-15), and a second piece from playwright Hernandez, the holidaytime production La Virgen De Guadalupe, Dios Inantzin (December 10-11).
