The writers and producers of the biographical musical Louis and Keely: Live at the Sahara are planning a national tour for next year and are aiming for a Broadway engagement in late 2010, according to published reports.

The show about the on- and offstage music between swing-era bandleader Louis Prima and singing sensation Keely Smith has been extended multiple times since its March opening at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. Louis and Keely had been staged previously at the Sacred Fools Theater Company and that incarnation won four Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards, including outstanding production.

While the Geffen production has been directed by Taylor Hackford and choreographed by Vernel Bagneris, Hackford will not be involved in the show in the future, but performers and writers, Vanessa Claire Smith and Jake Broder, will remain with the piece.
