Tony Martin Has Died at 98

Legendary film star, recording artist, and nightclub entertainer Tony Martin has died at 98, according to published reports.


Martin appeared in numerous movie musicals, including Pigskin Parade, Ziegfeld Girl, and Til the Clouds Roll By, in which he performed in the film’s Show Boat segment.


In addition, two songs he performed in films, “For Every Man There’s a Woman” from Casbah and “It’s a Blue World” from Music in My Heart, received Oscar nominations.


In 1955, he received a Primetime Emmy nomination for Best Male Singer. He appeared in dozens of television shows over his long career, and performed on the Academy Awards.


For many years, Martin played nightclubs and theaters with his wife, Hollywood star Cyd Charisse, who died in 2008. He also performed as a solo act, including a January 2008 gig at Feinstein’s at Loews Regency.
