Abigail Breslin Joins Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep in August: Osage County Film

Stage and screen star Abigail Breslin has joined the cast of the film version of Tracy Letts’ August: Osage County, according to Deadline.com.


John Wells will direct the film, which will star Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts. Shooting will begin in September.


The Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play centers a family whose lives have splintered until a crisis brings them back together in the clan’s home and its dysfunctional matriarch, Violet Weston (to be played by Streep).


Roberts will play Violet’s oldest daughter, Barbara Fordham, and Breslin will play Roberts’ teenaged daughter, Jean.


According to other reports, Andrea Riseborough will play Karen Weston, Juliette Lewis will play Ivy Weston, and Chris Cooper will play Charlie Aiken.


Breslin appeared on Broadway in The Miracle Worker and received an Oscar nomination for Little Miss Sunshine.
