Coby Getzug will star in The Los Angeles Festival of New American Musicals and ASCAP’s free staged reading of the 2010 Richard Rodgers Award winning musical, Rocket Science, at the Barnsdall Gallery Theater, August 3 and 4 at 8pm.

Featuring a book by Patricia Cotter, music by Stephen Weiner, and lyrics by Jason Rhyne, Rocket Science centers on 16-year-old Hal Hefner (Getzug), a lifelong stutterer, who is bright, funny and stuck behind a wall of words he can’t quite get out his mouth. When the queen of the high school debate team plucks him from obscurity, Hal begins a life-altering journey to tackle his biggest challenge: finding his true voice.

The cast will also include Reba Buhr, Trey Ellett, Heidi Godt, Andre Kluger, Tyler Ledon, Steve Limones, John Massey, Tiffany Ann Mills, Brian Pugach, Chrissa Villanueva, Justine Woodford, and Penelope Yates.

The staging will feature orchestrations by Remy Kurs, and is produced by Marcia Seligson and Michael Kerker, with musical direction by Darryl Archibald.

Getzug played Moritz on the national tour of Spring Awakening, and understudied the lead role of Eugene in the 2009 Broadway production of Brighton Beach Memoirs. Additional credits include The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Ben Franklin in Paris, Big the Musical, Urinetown, and Big River.

RSVP is required for FREE Admission. E-mail info@lafestival.org or call 310-827-2850.
