Stage and screen star Kevin Bacon has joined the cast of the forthcoming X-Men: First Class film, according to a report in the Hollywood Reporter. The movie, to be directed by Matthew Vaughn, focuses on the superhero team in a younger incarnation than has been seen in previous films.

As previously reported, the film will star James MacAvoy and Michael Fassbender as Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr (a.k.a .Magneto). The site also reports that stage veterans Alice Eve and Nicholas Hoult and film star Jennifer Lawrence will be part of the cast.

Bacon has appeared in Slab Boys and An Almost Holy Picture on Broadway and Spike Heels, Road, and Loot Off-Broadway. He won a SAG Award earlier this year for HBO’s Taking Change. Among his other screen appearances are Footloose, Apollo 13 and the upcoming Elephant White.
