Tom Stanczyk’s Prison Comedy Block Nine Premieres with Alternating Same-Sex Casts

Tom Stanczyk’s prison comedy, Block Nine will have its world premiere at Los Angeles’ Elephant Theatre Company. Running August 8 – September 20 at the Lillian Theatre, the production will feature two casts: one all-male, one all-female.

According to press notes, “Block Nine is an unapologetically same-sex, retro-noir 1930s gangster homage.” The dark comedy focuses specifically on an undercover cop’s journey into a seedy underworld.

Jeff Award-winning Emilie Beck will direct the all-female cast which includes Kerry Carney, Amy French, Laura Hess, Alexandra Hoover, Cheryl Huggins, Dylan Jones, Nikki McCauley, Marisa O’Brien, Maya Parish and Julie Weidmann. Pete Uribe who staged the North American tour of The Who’s Quadrophenia, is slated direct the male cast, which will feature Darryl Armbruster, Josh Breeding, Colin Michael Day, Jeremy Glazer, Louis Douglas Jacobs, Ryan Radis, Dominic Rains, Matthew Rimmer, Kenny Suarez and Max Williams.
