Sophocles’ Oedipus Meets Elvis Presley in Troubador’s Oedipus the King, Mama!

Oedipus the King, Mama! will be the first production of The Troubabour Theatre Company’s 2009-10 season. “Oedipus,” which will be presented at the Falcon Theatre in Burbank, California, will run August 12 – September 27.

The company, entering its 14th season, describes this newest offering as “The Maternal Musical that mashes up Sophocles’ Oedipus the King with the music of the King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley. Oedipus has a ‘Burning Love’ and he ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ with his Mama.” Matt Walker, who has trained with companies such as Second City Improvisation, The Royal Shakespeare Company, and The San Francisco Mime Troupe, as well as actor/clown Bill Irwin, will direct.
