Plays by Shakespeare, Clifford Odets, Michael Frayn On Tap For A Noise Within in 2009-10

William Shakespeare, Clifford Odets, John Millington Synge are just three of the dramatists whose work will be highlighted during the 2009-2010 season at A Noise Within. The Los Angeles-area theater, about to break ground on a permanent home in Pasadena, has just announced a slate of six plays that focus individuals who forge their own destinies.

During the fall, the theater will produce a new staging of Shakespeare’s Richard III (September 26-December 12). This history play about the infamous Monarch will run in repertory with Marilyn Campbell and Curt Columbus’ adaptation of Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment (October 10 – December 17) and Michael Frayn’s backstage farce Noises Off (November 7 – December 19).

In January, the company will present a special, limited engagement remounting of its acclaimed production of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot. The production, directed by Andrew Traister, will run for ten performances (January 16-26).

For its spring season, A Noise Within will begin with a production of Shakespeare’s romantic comedy, Much Ado About Nothing (February 27 – May 21). Clifford Odets’ portrait of a family weathering the Depression, Awake and Sing! (March 13 – May 23), and John Millington Synge’s glimpse into life in a tiny turn of the last century Irish village, Playboy of the Western World (April 10 – May 22), will be the theater’s other two spring repertory offerings.

Geoff Elliot, a co-founder and one of the artistic directors of A Noise Within, will direct “Richard,” Noises Off and “Playboy.” In addition to remounting “Godot,” Traister will stage the Odets’ drama in the spring. Craig Belknap and Michael Murray will direct “Crime” and “Much Ado,” respectively.
