Dakin Matthews to Star in Anteaus Company’s King Lear; Season Announced

Broadway veteran Dakin Matthews will star in the title role of Shakespeare’s
King Lear, to be presented by The Anteaus Company at its temporary home at Deaf West Theatre, June 12-August 8, 2010. Jonathan Lynn will direct.

The company’s season will open with the world premiere of Cousin Bette, October 24-November 1, Jeffrey Hatcher’s adaptation of a novel by Honoré de Balzac, a tale of revenge, sexual passion, and the effects of violent jealousy with Jeanie Hackett at the helm. The season will continue with The Autumn Garden, January 30-March 28, Lillian Hellman’s story about a group of middle-aged Southerners who come together in 1949 at a summer home on the Gulf of Mexico for their annual gathering. Larry Biederman will direct. Anteays will also present Classicsfest 2010, July 6-August 15, a program full of workshops, readings, late night events.
