Alexander, Gets, Lewis et al. to Star in L.A. Falsettos Benefit

Jason Alexander, Malcolm Gets, and Vicki Lewis will head the cast of a one-night-only performance of Falsettos to benefit The Actors Fund. The event will take place at the Wilshire Theatre Saturday, September 8.

Featuring music and lyrics by William Finn and a book by Finn and James Lapine, the musical centers around Marvin and his extended family, which include his ex-wife Trina, son Jason, male lover Whizzer, psychiatrist Mendel, and the lesbians from next door. The Broadway production received 7 Tony nominations, winning for Best Book of a Musical and Best Score in 1992.

Alexander, who will play Mendel, won a Tony Award for his work in Jerome Robbins’ Broadway and has starred in the Reprise! production of Promises, Promises and the Los Angeles company of The Producers. He is beloved by television audiences for his role of George Costanza on Seinfeld. Gets, who will play Marvin, was nominated for Tony and Drama Desk Awards for his starring role in Amour. Lewis has starred on Broadway in Chicago and Damn Yankees, worked extensively in Los Angeles theater, and is best known for her role on the NBC sitcom NewsRadio.

The cast will also include Andrew Samonsky as Whizzer, Hudson Thames as Jason, and additional actors to be announced. David Galligan will direct, with music direction by John McDaniel.
