Jeremy Irons to Star in Night Train to Lisbon Movie

Jeremy Irons will star in Night Train to Lisbon, according to a report in Variety. Bille August will direct the film.

The film, an adaptation of Pascal Mercier’s novel, centers on a Swiss professor of classical languages who travels to Lisbon in the hope of discovering what happened to an author-doctor- poet who fought against Portuguese dictator Antonio de Oliveira Salazar.

Irons’ many stage credits include The Real Thing, for which he won the Tony Award, The Winter’s Tale, Richard II, Never So Good, Embers, Impressionism, and A Little Night Music.

He won an Academy Award for his performance in Reversal of Fortune and the Emmy Award for Elizabeth I. His many other film and television credits include Being Julia, Appaloosa, The Merchant of Venice, Brideshead Revisited, and The Borgias, as well as the forthcoming The Words.
