Center Theatre Group Announces Online Casting Call for Bartlett-Sher-Directed Funny Girl

Center Theatre Group has announced an online casting call for its upcoming production of Funny Girl, to run January 15 – February 26. As previously announced, Bartlett Sher will direct the production.

With music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Bob Merrill, and a book by Isobel Lennart, the show charts the real life story of Fanny Brice, who, heralding from the streets of New York’s Lower East Side, became a toast of the Ziegfeld Follies.

Women between the ages of 21 and 35 will be able to submit an audition video to the creative team to be considered for the central role of Brice by visiting CenterTheatreGroup.org/FunnyGirlCasting. Submissions should be no longer than 90 seconds and only one audition video is allowed per performer. Actresses are directed to sing a short song of their choice, preferably something that shows off their personality — ideally something from musical theatre.

Audition videos are only being accepted for the role of Fanny Brice. The deadline for submissions is July 15, 2011. Applicants must be lawfully and currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
