Principal casting has been announced for the miniseries adaptation of Ken Follett’s World Without End. Michael Caton-Jones will direct the project, which has a script by playwright John Pielmeier.

The project, a follow-up to the series The Pillars of the Earth, is set in England just as the Church of England teeters on the brink of a devastating 100-year war with France, and Europe is bracing for a terrible plague. The story centers on a visionary woman who, with her lover, builds a community that stands up to the Crown and the Church. The show will star stage veterans Ben Chaplin, Peter Firth, Cynthia Nixon, and Charlotte Riley, along with Miranda Richardson and Tom Weston-Jones.

Chaplin received a Tony Award nomination for The Retreat From Moscow. Firth’s Broadway credits include Equus and Amadeus. Nixon, best known for her work on Sex in the City, won a Tony Award for Rabbit Hole and was Tony-nominated for Indiscretions. Riley, seen in the film Wuthering Heights, appeared in The Priory at the Royal Court Theatre in 2009.
