Real Women Have Curves Playwright Josefina López Presents World Premiere of Hungry Woman at Casa 0101 Theater

López will bring her newest stage play to Boyle Heights, California for a four-week run this June.

Mexican-born playwright Josefina López, best known as the scribe of the play Real Women Have Curves (and coauthor of the screenplay by the same name), is presenting the world premiere of her newest play, Hungry Woman, in Boyle Heights, California’s Casa 0101 Theater. The play is based on an abridged adaptation of López’s novel, Hungry Woman in Paris, and is scheduled for a limited four-week run from June 7-30 on the theater’s main stage.

“I wanted to compare life in the U.S. versus France,” said López in a statement about Hungry Woman. “I also wanted to tell the traditional American-in-France story with a Latina as protagonist to bring another perspective to this genre. I wanted to present a delicious female fantasy that would excite Latinas and create a forum for discussion about female sexuality.”

Directed by Corky Dominguez, the play contains a company of 12 actors who portray over 35 characters. Rachel González stars as Canela Guerrero, a Chicano journalist who breaks off her engagement and travels to Paris on her honeymoon alone to find herself. The ensemble also features Isaac Cruz, Claudia Dúran, Angel Fajardo, Maricela Guardado, Linda López, Mary Mendoza, Cameron Moir, Juan Parada, Anne Popolizio, Amber Rivera, and Ronni Valentine.
