The 28th annual Southland Theatre Artists Goodwill Event (STAGE) benefit, titled Original Cast 3, was held April 28 at the Saban Theatre Beverly Hills to benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles.
The event, which was directed by David Galligan with musical direction by John McDaniel and choreograpy by Lee Martina and Dan Mojica, raised over $200,000 for APLA’s work with clients living with HIV and AIDS in Los Angeles County. Emmy-winner Leslie Jordan received the Producer’s STAGE Award from Stage producer-director David Galligan for his tireless work in the AIDS community.
The performance featured original cast members of a variety of musicals singing the songs with which they’re associated. Performers included Anna Maria Alberghetti (Carnival), Adrienne Barbeau, (Grease), David Burnham (Light in the Piazza), Len Cariou (Sweeney Todd), Patrick Cassidy (Assassins), Mary Jo Catlett (Different Times), Carole Cook with Alaman Diadhiou (How Do You Do I Love You), Loretta Devine and Lillias White doing a number from Dreamgirls, Beth Fowler (Beauty and the Beast), Bonnie Franklin (Applause), Cody Green (West Side Story), Brian Lane Green (Big River), Bill Hutton (Blame It On the Movies), Pat Marshall (Mr. Wonderful), Andrea McArdle (Annie), Rex Smith (The Pirates of Penzance), Sally Struthers (Annie), The Tonics (Sondheim–A Musical Celebration at Carnegie Hall), Constance Towers (Anastasia), Susan Watson (Bye Bye Birdie) and John Lloyd Young (Jersey Boys).
Additionally, 97-year-old Patricia Morison, an Anna in The King & I opposite Yul Brynner on Broadway, performed “Getting to Know You” with members of the Stephen S. Wise Temple Elementary School choir.
