Tony Award winner Lillias White will lead the cast of Rubicon Theatre Company's production of August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean, to run May 16-June 24, with an opening on May 24. James O'Neil will direct.

Set in 1904 in Pittsburgh's Hill District, the show centers on a 285-year-old healer named Aunt Ester (played by White) who sends a young man named Citizen Barlow on a spiritual journey aboard the slave ship Gem of the Ocean--where he must confront his ancestors and then face the truth about himself.

The cast will also feature Keith Arthur Bolden (Citizen Barlow), Chris Butler (Caesar Wilkes), Anthony J. Haney (Solly Two Kings), Tom Mueller (Rutherford Selig), and Pamela Shaddock (Black Mary).

The creative team includes Thomas S. Giamario (set and lighting), Marcy Froehlich (costumes), David Beaudry (sound), Kevin Toney (musical consultant/original compositions), and William Keeler (dramaturg).
