Eisa Davis Recieves Alpert Award in the Arts
Actress and playwright Eisa Davis has been awarded the 18th annual Alpert Award in the Arts by The Herb Alpert Foundation and California Institute of the Arts.
The award, a prize of $75,000, recognizes past performance and future promise to artists working in Dance, Film/Video, Music, Theatre and Visual Arts. The other winners are Nora Chipaumire (Dance); Kevin Everson (Film/Video); Myra Melford (Music); and Michael Smith (Visual Arts). The Alpert Award in the Arts recipients will receive their awards at a brunch on May 11 held at the Herb Alpert Foundation in Santa Monica.
Davis is currently creating a music-theater piece, Flowers Are Sleeping, which is scheduled to premiere in 2013 at New York’s Symphony Space. Her work as a playwright includes Bulrusher, Ramp and Angela’s Mixtape, and her many stage acting credits include Passing Strange and This.
