Bette Midler and Jeffrey Tambor will join the previously announced Al Pacino in HBO’s in-development film about music producer Phil Spector, according to a report in Variety. David Mamet will write and direct the project.

The film, which has yet to be approved by the network, will explore the relationship between Spector (to be played by Pacino) and defense attorney Linda Kenney Baden (to be played by Midler), who represented Spector during his first trial for murder. Tambor will play fellow defense attorney Bruce Cutler.

Midler made her Broadway debut in the original company of Fiddler on the Roof, and received a special Tony Award in conjunction with her Clams on the Half Shell Revue. Tambor’s stage credits include Glengarry Glen Ross, Measure for Measure, and Sly Fox.
