Stage and screen actress Brooke Shields is set to try her hand at directing when she takes on the upcoming Hollywood Bowl production of the John Kander and Fred Ebb musical Chicago, which will run July 26-28. Rob Fisher will conduct the show's orchestra.

Chicago is the story of Roxie Hart, a 1920s housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media, and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago's slickest criminal lawyer to transform her crime into a barrage of sensational headlines.

Brooke Shields' many Broadway credits include The Addams Family, Wonderful Town, and Grease. She also cohosted the 2012 Drama Desk Awards. Shields is best known for her film and TV work, which includes Endless Love, Suddenly Susan, and Lipstick Jungle.

In a statement about the upcoming production of Chicago, Shields said, "My passion for Chicago began decades ago, purely as a fan. Years later, after having a dance session with Annie Reinking, she asked me to join the Chicago company. I have performed in the show in London and on Broadway and get excited by the score from the moment the overture begins. I have repeatedly been surprised by how current the piece remains and how relevant the themes are."

Casting will be announced at a later date.
