The Industry to Present World Premiere of Anne LeBaron’s Crescent City

The Industry is set to present the world premiere of composer Anne LeBaron and librettist Douglas Kearney’s Crescent City, a hyperopera, May 10-27 at Atwater Crossing. Yuval Sharon will direct.

Crescent City is a site-specific production which audiences will experience in 360-degrees. It is set in a mythical cityscape with abstract sets by a group of six LA-based artists. In the play, Crescent City is a shell of its former self in the wake of a devastating hurricane, and the few remaining inhabitants are struggling for survival. The production includes a live 16-piece orchestra, featuring the band Timur and the Dime Museum. Marc Lowenstein will conduct.

The cast will include Gwendolyn Brown (Marie Laveau), Jonathan Mack (The Cop), Cedric Berry (The Good Man), Timur Bekbosunov (Deadly Belle), Lillian Sengpiehl (Homesick Woman), Anthony Faatolia (Jesse), and Maria Elena Altany and Ji Young Yang (The Nurses).

Collaborating visual artists include Mason Cooley, Brianna Gorton, Katie Grinnan, Alice Könitz, Jeff Kopp, and Olga Koumoundouros.

The design team will feature Sibyl Wickersheimer (set design), Ivy Chou (costume design), Elizabeth Harper (lighting design), Martin Gimenez (sound design), and Jason Thompson (video design).
