Emmy Award-Winning Director Paul Bogart Has Died

Five-time Emmy Award winner Paul Bogart died on Sunday, April 15, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, according to The New York Times. He was 92.

Bogart directed the film adaptation of Harvey Fierstein‘s Torch Song Trilogy and a 1966 movie version of Chekhov’s The Three Sisters. He received Emmy nominations for his direction of the TV movie versions Wendy Wasserstein’s The Heidi Chronicles, Neil Simon’s Broadway Bound, and Hal Holbrook’s Mark Twain Tonight. He also directed television adaptations of the plays The Country Girl and An Enemy of the People and the musicals Kiss Me Kate, Carousel, and Evening Primrose.

He won Emmy Awards in directing for his work on All in the Family, The Defenders and the CBS Playhouse episodes, Shadow Game (#2.4) and Dear Friends. He also won an Emmy as one of the producers of The Golden Girls.

Bogart is survived by his sister, Jeanette Cavaris; his son, Peter; his daughters, Tracy and Jennifer; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
