Kristin Chenoweth, Glee, Modern Family, et al. Receive GLAAD Awards at Los Angeles Ceremony

The GLAAD Media Awards — which recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives — held its Los Angeles ceremony on April 10 at the Westin Bonaventure.

There was a tie for Outstanding Comedy Series with winners including Fox’s Glee, with the award accepted by Chris Colfer and Mike O’Malley; and ABC’s Modern Family, with stage veteran Jesse Tyler Ferguson accepting the award with castmates Julie Bowen and Ariel Winter on their show’s behalf.

Additional awards went to I Love You Phillip Morris for Outstanding Film – Limited Release category; Lifetime’s Project Runway for Outstanding Reality Program; and Fort Worth Speech” on MSNBC’s The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell for Outstanding TV Journalism Segment.

In addition, Sean Hayes presented his Promises, Promises co-star Kristin Chenoweth with the Vanguard Award, given to media professionals who have increased the visibility and understanding of the LGBT community.


Country music legend and Tony nominee Dolly Parton presented the Stephen F. Kolzak Award to NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt, presented to an openly lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality for the LGBT community.

Among the additional celebrities who attended the ceremony and/or presented awards were stage veterans Melissa Etheridge, Megan Hilty, Jai Rodriguez, and Allison Janney. Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones served as hosts for the evening, while Cirque du Soleil performed an act from their newest show Iris at the event.
