Rene Rivera to Star in Stacey Martino’s The King of the Desert

René Rivera will star in Stacey Martino’s new play, The King of the Desert (El Rey del Desierto), to be presented by CoActive Content at the El Centro Theatre, May 5-June 11. Valentino Ferreira will direct.

The play depicts a Mexican American boy’s journey of self-discovery through adulthood and the realization of his dreams. Ten percent of the proceeds from the run of the show will benefit The National Latino Children’s Institute headquartered in San Antonio, TX.

The design team will include Danuta Tomzynski and Michael Brainard (set) and Tony Sanders (lighting).

Rivera has appeared on Broadway in Salome, and his Off-Broadway credits include Richard II, In The Jungle of Cities, Henry IV, Parts 1 and 2 and Hamlet.
