Rinde Eckert to Receive Alpert Award in the Arts

Writer/composer/performer/director Rinde Eckert will be presented with the 2009 Alpert Award in the Arts in Theatre at a private ceremony at Herb Alpert’s Vibrato Jazz & Grill in Bel Air, California on Tuesday, May 5.

The other 2009 Alpert Award recipients are choreographer Reggie Wilson for dance, Paul Chan for film/video, violist John King for music, and Paul Pfeiffer for visual arts.

Eckert was a 2007 Pulitzer Prize finalist for Drama for Orpheus X, won an Obie Award for And God Created Great Whales, and received a Drama Desk nomination and a Lucille Lortel Award for Horizon. As previously announced, Eckert’s new collaboration with composer/guitarist Steven Mackey, Slide, will make its world premiere as part of the 2009 Ojai Music Festival in June.
