Sigourney Weaver will star opposite the previously announced James Wolk in USA’s six-hour drama series Political Animals.

The show will center on a former First Lady (Weaver), who is newly appointed Secretary of State and who throws herself into the job after recovering from the dissolution of her marriage and losing the presidential nomination. Barrish relies heavily on her son Doug (Wolk), an ambitious politico who serves as her chief of staff, but is tormented by his twin brother’s struggles with addiction. The cast will also feature Brittany Ishibashi.

Weaver was Tony-nominated for Hurlyburly and her additional stage credits include Crazy Mary, Mrs. Farnsworth, Gemini, and Sex and Longing. She is a three-time Academy Award nominee for Aliens, Gorillas in the Mist, and Working Girl. She was also nominated for Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Awards for her work in Prayers for Bobby.
